GUIDELINES: COUNTY LINESLITERARY JOURNAL

County Lines: a Literary Journal is published annually by the Franklin County Writers’ Guild, showcasing a curated collection of the finest poetry, prose, and artwork by creators of all ages from all over Franklin County, North Carolina, the United States, and the world.

Writers and artists whose work is accepted for publication in County Lines: A Literary Journal Vol. 10. 2022 will receive one complimentary copy of the journal. All proceeds from sales of the journal help to fund the Franklin County Arts Council’s efforts to promote and support the arts in Franklin County, NC.

In order to help us process the hundreds of submissions we receive each year, please read the following guidelines carefully. Submissions not adhering to these guidelines will not be considered.

Restrictions:

  •   There are no restrictions on age or location. Submission is open to writers of any age or location inside or outside the US.

  •   Work cannot contain erotica, violence, hate, political editorial, or excessive profanity.

  •   Deadline for submission is August 15, 2022.

    Prose Guidelines:

  •   Prose may include short stories, flash fiction, essays, or creative non-fiction.

  •   All prose submissions must be Word documents (.doc or .docx.) We are unable to accept PDFs,

    plain text files, or any other format.

  •   Prose must be 2,000 words or under (excluding title) in length.

  •   Prose must be submitted as double-spaced, 12-point Times font.

  •   Type the piece’s word-count and your name, address, and email address in the upper left-hand

    corner of your manuscript.

  •   Do not include any photos or images in the body of your document.

    Poetry Guidelines:

  •   All poetry submissions must be Word documents (.doc or .docx.) We are unable to accept PDFs, plain text files, or any other format.

  •   Poetry must be submitted as single-spaced, 12-point Times font

  •   Poetry submissions must be 30 lines or under (excluding title) in length.

  •   Type the poem’s line-count and your name, address, and email address in the upper left-hand

    corner of each poem.

  •   Do not include any photos or images in the body of your document.

    Art Guidelines:

  •   Image format may be .jpg or .png. We cannot accept PDF or any other format.

  •   Art submissions must be attached to an email with the title(s) of the piece(s), and your name,

    address, and email address in the body of the email.

  •   Images must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

  •   Please be aware that any images published in the interior of the book will be printed in

    grayscale. High-resolution images with good contrast work best for this kind of display.

How to Submit Your Work:

  •   All entries must be submitted by email. Attach your Word document (for prose or poetry) or image file (for artwork only) to an email with “County Lines Submission” in the subject line and send it to email addressfcaccountylinessubmissions@fcacarts.org.

  •   You may submit as many pieces as you like, but please send only one prose submission or up to five poetry or artwork pieces per email.

  •   All submissions must be received by August 15, 2022.

  •   Rights to publish your work in County Lines: a Literary Journal is one-time only. If your work is

    included, you will still retain all rights to publish it elsewhere in the future. Feel free to email us if you have questions about these guidelines:
