EXHIBITION CLOSES SATURDAY JAN 18, 2025 AT 5PM!
DON'T MISS THIS EXPERIENCE
The Center for Visual Artists is excited to announce the opening of a powerful new exhibition by emerging Greensboro artist Patrick Griggs. Titled The Lockdown – 2020 Collection, this exhibition will run from January 7 to 18, 2025. The opening reception, featuring an Artist Talk with Griggs, will take place on Wednesday Jan 15, from 5-8 PM.
Griggs’ collection features over 50 emotive portraits, each depicting exaggerated features that highlight the emotional and psychological toll of the COVID-19 pandemic. The series captures the emotional journey of individuals through the lockdown, reflecting a wide range of experiences during this unprecedented time.
In a unique partnership with the Interactive Resource Center (IRC), Griggs has curated eight graffiti panels from the local Black Lives Matter in response to the George Floyd protests movement in downtown Greensboro. These vibrant, powerful works will accompany the portraits, adding a dynamic layer of social commentary to the exhibition.
“We’re thrilled to start 2025 with such a compelling exhibition that not only reflects on the emotional impact of the pandemic but also connects to the ongoing social justice movements in our community,” said Sage Betts, Gallery Coordinator of the Center for Visual Artists.
The exhibition is open to the public and free of charge, offering an unmissable opportunity to experience Griggs' powerful exploration of two pivotal moments in recent history: the global pandemic and the fight for racial justice.

INTRODUCING PATRICK GRIGGS
Patrick Griggs is a rooted artist originally from the countryside of Whitsett, NC. He spent most of his professional years in fashion and hair, making it a natural transition from being a self-taught artist to a formally trained one.
Patrick’s rich background as a high-profile hair stylist inherently transformed his true passion into painting over the past decade, providing his abstract and impressionistic style that reflects his emotional journey after the loss of his lifelong best friend, Derec.
Most days, one can find Patrick nestled in his charming art studio with paints, where color comes to life, producing pieces that are both beautiful and therapeutic.
During the global quietude of the Covid era, Patrick immersed himself in a vivid rebellion against the pervasive gloom. His canvas became a channel, where bold, explosive neon colors clashed and merged, creating vibrant, dynamic works of art. Each painting pulsed with life, embodying a defiant celebration of hope and resilience. This retrospective radiant series named “The Lockdown - 2020 Collection” converted the artist’s isolation into a luminous sanctuary, introducing an electric optimism that pierced through the pandemic’s darkness.
Living in color, Patrick’s whimsical art not only brings joy to those who see it, but it also serves as a great reminder that beauty can be found in these rapidly evolving times.
Patrick currently resides in Greensboro, NC. He is well traveled, enjoys passage of moments with his friends and family, entertaining on his porch, and loves listening to music while sharing classic tales.
Patrick with all heart is also known for his design winning, lush English garden----right in his backyard!
