We ART Greensboro: STRUCTURE

About the exhibition:

We Art Greensboro is a biennial open call exhibition for Greensboro artists of all ages that aims to showcase what our community is creating now.

About the theme:

We ART Greensboro 2024: Structure will explore how local artists interpret the word Structure through various visual mediums. We've chosen this theme because with a whole new staff and a new year, it is important that we begin to build and grow CVA into a space for local emerging artists. But before we can fully grow, we must build upon a structure to be successful. We encourage artists to submit pieces that provoke thought, spark conversation, and offer unique insights of this theme. 

How do you interpret the word structure? Is it your practice? Is your structure based on color theory? Does the word structure make you think of buildings, geometry, and brutalist architecture? Is it a design, routine, or plan? A frame or a shell? Many pieces of something put together to create something? What words and imagery come to mind? Legos or concrete?

Have you broken out of your structure and changed your practice, medium, or style? Or do you feel you lack structure? Consider the intersection of discipline and creativity within art.

This exhibition will showcase art made in the classroom, from CVA’s Art in the Afternoon program to the Print Shop to the Ceramics Studio. We are also opening up the gallery for submissions from artists who have created art in public school (elementary, middle and high school), colleges and universities, and public art classes offered throughout Guilford County.
