Inspired by Indigenous Artists of the Americas (1st-3rd) Drawing inspiration from the works of indigenous artists from North and South America students will create their own pieces using similar techniques and styles.  Artists referenced may include those from the ancient Mayan civilization, as well as Inuit peoples, First Nations, American Indians, and indigenous peoples of Mexico and South America.  At least part of the focus will be on indigenous artists from the Eastern United States. Campers will explore the stories and imagery in picture books illustrated by indigenous artists to develop their visual literacy and expand their sense of what’s possible with art and design.

This is one week in a series of related camps where students will have the opportunity to learn about the important contributions to the world these artists made and how their art serves as a way to teach others about cultural diversity
