These sessions are designed for complete beginners as well as those looking to advance their watercolor practice. You’ll learn foundational skills using a sketchbook format in an inclusive, creative space at our CVA Gallery—perfect for building confidence and exploring new techniques at any level.

  • Clay Purchase Required: It is expected that each student purchases at least one 25-pound bag of clay per session.

  Artists with disabilities and members of the LGBTQIA+ community are invited to participate in The Art of Inclusion: Celebrating Greensboro's Diverse Community, an exhibition highlighting the creativity, resilience, and unique perspectives of artists from historically underrepresented communities in Greensboro. 

  This exhibition seeks to create a welcoming space where artists can share work that reflects identity, lived experience, culture, and personal storytelling by artists of all ages and media. By bringing together artists from the disability and LGBTQIA+ communities, The Art of Inclusion aims to create dialogue, visibility, and appreciation for the diversity that enriches Greensboro’s community.

  The exhibition will open with a free public reception on Friday, June 5 from 6:00–9:00 PM, inviting community members, artists, families, and supporters to gather in celebration of art, inclusion, and connection. The exhibition will be available to the public until Saturday, July 25, 2026.

  Call for Art

  Artists are encouraged to submit original artwork that explores themes including, but not limited to:

  • Identity and self-expression

  • Disability pride and lived experience

  • LGBTQIA+ culture and history

  • Community, belonging, and resilience

  • Intersectionality and social inclusion

  All visual media are welcome, including:

  • Painting

  • Drawing

  • Photography

  • Sculpture

  • Mixed media

  • Fiber art

  • Digital art

  Both emerging and established artists of all ages and abilities are encouraged to apply. Artists must identify as a person with a disability and/or as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

  Submission Guidelines

  • 3-5 artworks per artist may be submitted

  • Include artist name, artwork title, medium, size, and price

  • Include a short artist statement in PDF, Word or Pages format

  • Digital images should be high-quality JPEG or PNG files

  • Works must be ready to hang upon delivery (if artist needs assistance, please reach out)

  Join us for a fun, art-filled day.  Students will get to create a variety of visual art projects. Using various materials and their creativity, students will find the sky is the limit on what they can create!

  > Hours = 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

  *Drop off begins at 8:45 a.m., latest pick up at 3:30 p.m.

  >Students in Kindergarten through 5th grades welcome

  >Cost is $35 for current Art in the Afternoon (CVA's after-school program) members, $65 for all other students, 10% discount for CVA Family Members

  Animal Plate Handbuilding Pottery Workshop

  Create Handmade Magic with CVA!

  Join Victoria Mercado‑Lues for a hands‑on pottery workshop where you’ll learn fundamental techniques and create a perfect jewelry or trinket dish for you!!

  This workshop is great for artists of any age or experience level—whether you’re a seasoned maker or trying ceramics for the first time. All materials are provided, and your finished work will be kiln‑fired and ready for pickup about two weeks after the event.

  About the Instructor:

  Originally from Florida, Victoria Mercado-Lues is a Mexican-American ceramicist and oil painter who has exhibited her work across the US. She has taught pottery on the wheel to children at Camp Laurel, Maine, teaches art at UNCG, and will be a resident with GROW: Creative Greensboro in August. Victoria earned her BFA from USF and is currently an MFA candidate at UNCG. She is excited to join CVA and continue to share her passion for ceramics!
